Ron Atkinson sends a message of goodwill to Horncastle Town F.C. at the time of their 1993 reunion

At the time Ron Atkinson was manager of Aston Villa and sent the below message to congratulate the football club on 120 years of existance.

"I am delighted to have this opportunity to congratulate Horncastle Football Club on their magnificent 120 year existence and to wish all their players, both past and present, a marvellous reunion.
Aston Villa is one of the founder members of the Football League, but even we were only formed in 1874 and did not turn professional until 1885.

Horncastle were obviously a good omen for Villa when they played them in the 1886 -87 F.A. Cup, because we went on to win the trophy that year and if that is the case , we would certainly like to be to which teams like Aston Villa are built and on behalf of everyone here at Villa Park, I wish them all the very best for the next 120 years."

The summer of 1993 saw an historic occasion in Horncastle - the first ever reunion for past players of the town’s football club.
There were many moving moments as ex-players from the 1930’s and 1940’s met up again at the event on the Wong.

One of the highlights of the day was a game between Horncastle Town FC and Grimsby Town, which Grimsby won six nil.
The day ended with a reunion dance at the Town Hall with music by singer Pete Lowe - himself an ex-player.

Bradford City Fire Appeal

In 1985 John Rawdon organised a charity match of past and present Town players for the Bradford City Fire Appeal. Both matches raised substantial amounts.
