Reserves run RM Imp close

HTFC Webmaster24 Nov 2013 - 21:47

Town's reserve team gave Lincoln league leaders RM Imp a real test losing out by the odd goal in three on Saturday on The Wong.

Town could have took the lead just minutes into the game when a cross from the right was headed over the bar by Jack Baxter just five yards from goal.

But Town didn't have to wait much longer when Luke Blondel dispossessed the Imp defence and cooly chipped the keeper from the edge of the area to give the home side the lead.

Town continued to dominate the game with Lee Wilson and Scott Maplethorpe winning the battle in the middle of the park and Tommy Chalk and Josh Cheetham causing problems from out wide. Jack Baxter should have doubled the advantage when he headed wide his second opportunity of the game.

Thirty minutes in, RM Imp were awarded a penalty after Daryl Dunn caught the Imp player when attempting to win the ball in his own area, bringing him to ground and the referee pointing to the spot. The Imp captain Liam Uzzel stepped up and slotted the ball past Liam Smith in goal and level the game at the half way stage.

This seemed to spark the away side into life and the visitors began to show a few more signs of why the were top of the league than they had done in the previous thirty minutes. And they almost took the lead in the first minute of the second half, however a fingertip save from Liam Smith pushed the ball onto the crossbar to deny the Imp forward.

RM Imp began to press for the winner, but Town were continuing to be a threat in an attempt to take the lead themselves. Their best chance fell to Tommy Chalk when Jaxter Baxter rolled the ball into the path of Chalk but he was unable to finish and sliced the ball wide of the goal.

However shortly after the league leaders did make the game 2-1 when the league's top scorer, Jason Tinkler scored his seventeenth of the season with just ten minutes of the half to go, turning on the edge and managing to guide the ball into the corner of the net.

Town tried to respond with an equaliser but were unable to do so and the game ended 2-1. Considering it was bottom of the table versus top Town gave a really good account of themselves and were unlucky to not to get something from the game.

Their next fixtures see them host Fulbeck Utd on The Wong on Saturday 30th November. 2:15pm kick off.

Team: Smith, C.Low, Porter, J.Blondel, Dunn (Bodily), Chalk, Maplethorpe (Nunn), L.Wilson, Cheetham (Burchnall) Baxter, L.Blondel.
