Reserves earn first three points of the season

HTFC Webmaster29 Sep 2013 - 23:48

Town reserves recorded their first win of the season with a 2-1 win over Fulbeck Utd.

It was a relatively cautious opening first half with neither team particularly taking the iniative and dominating the play. Although what was clear to see was the pace and movement of Bradley Wilson and Luke Blondel up front still which was causing the centre backs of the home side all sorts of problems.

The overlapping play down the left between Matty Low and Ryan Gryniewicz was giving Fulbeck a few problems. However whenever Town managed to get in positions the final delivery into the box lacked quality to cause the home side too much of an issue.

Fulbeck looked better going forward than they did at the back and were a big threat from set pieces, but Town managed to keep them at bay up until half time with the scoreline at 0-0.

The first five minutes of the second half saw town make an ideal start. Just two minutes after the restart town took the lead when Bradley Wilsons effort struck the bar, came out to Luke Blondel who cooly slotted home the rebound. Soon after town doubled their advantage when some good play from Josh Cheetham down the left created another scoring opportunity for Wilson and he finally he got a goal himself with a tidy finish from ten yards out.

The home side grabbed a goal back with twenty to go after town failed to clear their lines as the ball bounced around in the six yard box and was hit home from short range to bring Fulbeck back into the game after town had looked in control for much of the half.

As Fulbeck pushed for an equaliser Town had more space going forward and the pace of Matty Low and Brad Wilson calved open their defence. However the pair failed to capitalise and were indecisive in front of goal allowing Fulbeck to escape and still leave them with hope that they could get something from the game.

With just over five minutes left the town defence looked for an offside flag which never came but were let off when the Fulbeck forward could only hit the frame of the goal. In another opportunity for the home team Daniel Bodily was had been solid all game came in with two full blooded tackles to prevent Fulbeck from getting an equaliser.

Town saw out the remainder of the game to give themselves a much deserved and much needed first three points of the season.

Next week sees the reserves travel to the currently second placed side, The Blues Club of Gainsborough.

Team: L.Burchnall, M.Low, C.Johnson, D.Marshall, D.Bodily, R.Gryniewicz (C.Low), J.Bennett, S.Bastow (Nunn), J.Cheetham, B.Wilson, L.Blondel.
