Town could and probably should have made easier work of their trip to East Drayton, but conditions were a leveler and they had to dig deep for all three points.
Town had arguably their strongest squad of the season, with the addition of first team players Gareth Melia and Jacob Wilson, as well as the return of James and Luke Blondel. Gareth partnered Lewis Burchnall in attack, whilst Jacob and Luke played left and right midfield, respectively. James Blondel slotting in at centre back alongside Jamie Lewis.
It was a relatively uneventful first half compared to what was to come in the second, but East Drayton took the lead on the half hour mark following some slack defending from Town. With his back to goal, the East Drayton midfielder was allowed the time to turn and get his shot away. The ball just slipping under the arms of Town keeper, Liam Smith.
Town tried to force the issue with some good link up play from Jacob Wilson and Gareth Melia down the left, but were unable to create a clear opportunity. The chance came with ten minutes of the first half to go, when a shot from Town was blocked with a hand; the referee pointing to the spot. Captain, Jamie Lewis stepped up but was unable to convert as the shot went well over the bar.
Town went in 1-0 down at half time, but with the game still very much in their grasp. Town started brightly and five minutes into the second half they introduced Ryan Nunn, who added an abundance of energy in the midfield. Town began to dominate the game and leveled the scoreline five minutes later when the ball fell to feet of Gareth Melia just inside the eighteen yard box, who with several defenders surrounding him and using his weaker foot, coolly placed the ball into the top left corner.
Lewis Burchnall made way for James Parkinson who went to the right of midfield with Luke Blondel joining Melia up front. Soon after, Melia doubled his tally owing to some great work down the right from Bodily, who after picking the ball up in his own half outpaced the opposition left hand side, drilling the ball across the box giving Melia an easy tap in to put Town in the lead. That was the end to Bodily's game as he was soon after replaced for recent signing Oli Saville who dropped into right full back.
Town still looked vulnerable in defense and a counter attacking move from the home side saw a tangle of legs in the box, leading to a penalty which was slotted into the corner to level the game up once again.
Town responded well once again and the ball dropped to the substitute Saville twenty yards out who unleashed a unstoppable strike into the top right corner.
Just five minutes later, Saville picked the ball up from the right back position and without hesitation let loose an even better strike into the top left hand corner, giving the East Drayton keeper no chance and Town a two goal advantage.
The game wasn't over though and credit to East Drayton they pulled one back with five minutes to go, making it a nervy final few minutes, but Town managed to hold on to claim all three points.
The win takes the Reserves up third place in the league and just one point off leaders Birchwood. The two teams still have to play twice, including next week on The Wong.
