Horncastle Town U13 v Lowlands Bees Mid Lincs League – ‘U13’s win again to go third'

With two successive away wins Horncastle returned home to take on Lowland Bees in their Mid Lincs league campaign. The Wongers didn’t disappoint, delivering a 4-3 victory and taking them to third in the league table level on points with second placed Metheringham.

With the rain teaming down the red and whites kicked off, early exchanges were dominated by the home side. Alfie ‘Dave’ Baird latching onto an Ellis Roberts through ball rifled his shot just wide. Connor Pinkett and Joshua Baxter both looking lively their efforts just wide.

Town continued to press, Josh Britchford as always in the thick of the action forcing the visitors into a mistake on the half way line. Ryan Woollard latched onto the loose ball then with only one thought in his mind, charged towards the opposition goal, shrugging off the attentions of a recovering defender he neatly slotted the ball into the right hand corner of the net, 1-0.

Horncastle looked immediately to increase their advantage with Baird and Pinkett leading the charge, the latter regrettably having to leave the pitch shortly afterwards following a clash of heads.

Lowlands resorted to long ball tactics however they were thwarted by Lewis Howden solid headed clearances and speed king Aaron Smith winning the foot race with the advancing attackers.

Town pinned Lowlands into their half forcing further errors, then after a as quick as a flash the impressive Woollard found himself in space and lashing the ball goal wards, desperate defending only helped the ball over the goal line, 2-0.

Sensing blood town continued to press but could convert a further chance before the break, HT 2-0.

The Wongers continued where they left off in the first half controlling possession, Archie Kirk making a welcome return from injury a solid presence in the middle of the park, it seemed inevitable more goals would follow. Then midfield terrier Kyle Tempest won the ball on the hallway line, lofting a beautifully weighted pass forward for Woollard who thrashed the ball past the diving keeper, 3-0.

Horncastle kept Lowlands on the rack with sustained attacks, an unfortunate Lowlands defender handing in the box, the result penalty. Skipper James McKeag stepped up and from a short run up thrashed the ball into the net, celebrating with Woollard in a double Dab, 4-0.

With the match seemingly tapering out into a home win, Lowlands suddenly struck three times in quick succession, 4-3. With the momentum with the visitors they continued to press, Towns keeper Peter Smith making some impressive stops to retain the slender lead.

Further chances were fashioned for Woollard and McKeag however Town could not add to their total, FT 4-3.

Head coach Bruce Baxter praised his team for an excellent performance and result, commending Howden, Kirk & the respective Smiths. It was however midfield general Ellis Roberts and hat trick hero Ryan Woollard who was awarded joint man of the match for their outstanding performances.

Next Sunday Town are on the road again, travelling to take on Cherry Colts.
