The first half saw the visitors take control of the majority of possession, as would be expected, but they failed to break down a Town side who were well organised, leaving little space to expose. Infact the hosts could argue that they posed more of a threat on the counter attack, with Edwards running the channels when town looked to break quickly from the back. Spalding's best chance of the game came when Town were caught square at the back, but a last ditch challenge from Jamie Lamming took the ball away from the striker just as he was about to get his shot away.
The second half was a similar story, but Town were finding it harder to retain possession and as a result found themselves dropping deeper, inviting the pressure from Spalding. But to Town's credit they were standing strong, with 'keeper William Wood in particularly fine form between the sticks. However, the deadlock was broken with just ten minutes left on the clock. Town failed to close down the short corner, resulting into a cross to the back post for the towering Spalding center back, Kern Miller to head home to give the visitors the lead. This ended up being the only goal of the game, with Town proving a much sterner test than the Evo-stik side may have expected. Considering Spalding play four divisions higher than Town, the wongers can be more than pleased with their efforts with plenty of positives to take away from the game for manager, Paul Johnson.
Town's final pre-season match, before the Lincs league season kicks off next Saturday is at home to Benington on Tuesday evening (7:30pm kick off).
Line up: Wood, Lovett, Low, Brown, Rawdon (Bodily), G.Melia, Johnson (Lamming) (J.Melia), Lowman, Jackson, Smith, Edwards.
