Town made a very lively start to the game, and were looking to play positive football to get the ball into wide areas at every opportunity. Ten minutes in and Edwards was played through on goal but his strike hit the side netting at the near post. However a period of sloppy play crept into Town’s game and began to give the ball away in dangerous areas. This lead to North Somercotes taking the lead as a ball was played through the Town defence, the attacker appeared to get to the ball first and ‘keeper, Burchnall took him down, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. The Somercotes player made no mistake with the conversion.
Town made three changes going into the second half with William Wood, James Melia and Luke Blondel all entering the fray. The equaliser came soon after the break when some good interplay from the Melia brothers lead to the Gareth’s shot being parried out to Richard Jackson to side foot home for his first goal since returning to the club. With fifteen minutes remaining Town took the lead. Lamming’s ball out from right back was worked on by James Melia. Richard Jackson still had a lot to do but after flicking the ball inside over the head of the Somercotes defender he deftly lobbed the ‘keeper to give Town the lead and get his second goal of the game. At this stage Town should have seen the game out, but again some sloppy play saw the hosts reply soon after to take the game to 2-2. In the final five minutes of the game the torrential rain began to hamper the play but the home side still looked to go on the attack. They were soon rewarded when after their corner was cleared at the near post the Somercotes midfield wasn’t closed down quick enough and picked his spot in the bottom left hand corner to snatch the win just minutes before the referee’s whistle was blown for full time.
