Town started the game very sluggishly and after 15 minutes they found themselves a goal behind as the United winger slotted past Andrew Shinn on the goal line after rounding kepper Will Wood. Town struggled to get any fluidity to their play for the remainder of the half and only created one half chance as the home keeper spilled an Olly Johnson free kick but nobody had gambled on the mistake and the defender cleared.
The second half started badly for Town as the Pinchbeck front two combined well to create a one-on-one chance and the striker made no mistake poking the ball past Wood. This seemed to be the catalyst to the performance that Town needed and they pulled a goal back on the hour as Danny Bent volleyed into the bottom corner. Within two minutes they were level as Tony Edwards chased a ball down the United keeper came rushing out and pulled the Town front man to the ground. Olly Johnson stepped up to convert the resulting penalty low to the keepers left. With their tails up Town edged in front through another fine Danny Bent strike. Tony Edwards was involved again as his pin point cross found Danny ten yards out and his shot on the turn put Town in front. As the hosts began to tire Town made the score 4-2 when Steve Browns persistence paid off as he fired a low shot into the bottom corner. To their credit the hosts didn’t give in and made for a nervous last five minutes as they made the scoreline 4-3. Town held on though and showed real character in the second period hitting back from 2-0 down to eventually pull through by four goals to three. The four lads all making the step up from the reserves all impressed with Ryan Gryniewicz having a very good debut on the left flank.
