As that illusive first game of the season nears, Town stepped up their game, winning 4-0 on The Wong.
With Michael Harness and Tony Edwards unavailable manager Paul Johnson opted for the same formation as he played on Saturday, a 4-2-3-1 with Danny Bent leading the line. This time, however Scott Lowman dropped in at Centre half, pushing Steve Brown forward into his more familiar position in the middle of the park.
Town began the game the better of the two sides, putting the Spilsby defence under pressure right from the off. But to their credit the stood strong and often looked a threat on the break.
But it was Horncastle who broke the deadlock with a fine finish by Danny Bent into the top right hand corner.
The home side continued to push for a second, but were on occasions fortunate not to concede at the other end of the pitch.
Steve Lovett, Jim Watters and Jack Baxter were introduced at half time and Town began to dominate proceedings. Steve Lovett doubled the advantage, Danny Bent notched a second and Carl Smith rounded things off from the spot late on in the game.
There could have been several more goals in the end if it wasn't for the defiant Spilsby Town keeper who pulled off some great saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
With Town's opening game of the season less than two weeks away, manager Paul Johnson will be pleased with what he has seen so far from his team. However Town will face a much tougher test on Friday evening when they take on a Boston Utd XI in the John Rawdon Memorial Trophy. Kick off for that game is 7:30 on The Wong.
