Max Danby scored an unbelievable header two minutes from time to send the under 9's into the final. A great team celebration followed, what a goal!

Horncastle Town Under 9's displayed some quality passing football throughout the morning, in their 3 semi final group games, with the top 2 team progressing to the O'Boyle Brothers Plate final on May 7th at Woodhall Spa.

Some of the Horncastle's passing around the pitch from every member was great to see, they started the semi final against the strong Swifts team, who we had already beaten once this season, but it was Swifts who snatched the win this time, with a 2-0 win. Although Town produced some stunning football, they couldn't quite find their way past Swift's number 1.

Next up was a must win game against North Lindum Hawks Athletic, and the team won emphatically 3-0, with another fine performance, this left the final game against Lowlands with Horncastle requiring a result to get through to their second final of the season.

With both teams wanting the result to get through to the final, it was a hard fought competitive game, with Horncastle again playing some fine football, and defended strongly to prevent any goal threat, the first half ended 1-1. Second half began and Horncastle became the dominant force, passing their way through, controlling the game, and with just a couple of minutes remaining in the game Horncastle won another corner. Ed Chambers placed the ball down and then swerved in a stunning cross to the near post, Max Danby reacted superbly, timing his run to perfection, meeting the cross with absolute bullet header, top corner, unstoppable, what a goal by Max, sending the team through to the final! What a way to do it, with a top class goal! The team held on, and kept their concentration for the final minute, to win 2-1, Horncastle Town Unders 9's through to the O'Boyle Brothers Plate final.

Each member of the team contributed to the fantastic team effort and performances, Charlie Piper was outstanding in goal, he pulled off an unbelievable save in one game, top quality, Jamie Spooner defended superbly, playing some cracking football, Ollie Brooks performing heroically each game, pressing the opponents, and passing well, Max Pinkett played brilliantly in defence and on the wing, scoring and creating a goal, Edward Evison full of energy, putting in an awesome shift, Max Danby put in some great tackles, and his passing play was excellent, and he got that winning header! Ed Chambers was creative and passed the ball around excellently, and grabbed a goal, Joe Todd linked up play brilliantly, was powerful, and scored 2 great goals. Though extremely difficult to choose, the player of the match awards went to Ed, Pinky, and goal hero Max Danby.

Fantastic achievement from the boys, well done everyone.
