It was a fantastic effort from the under 10s on Sunday in the Bryan Smith Trophy Final at Eslaforde Park in Sleaford.

The town youngsters, who are only in their opening season together, had already defied the odds to reach the finals day at Sleaford, and they certainly didn't disappoint with their displays on Sunday morning.

The team came up against 'A' Division side Retford Utd Blacks in their opening game of the group, but showed great organisation and teamwork to restrict their opponents, whilst creating a handful of chances their selves. However, a strong Retford did go onto win that game 2-0, but there was plenty of positives to take away from Horncastle's opening performance.

Unlike the first game, the team got the result they deserved in their second game as they went onto win 2-1 against 'B' league side, Young Dons. A much more clinical display from Town who were much sharper than their opponents this time round.

In the final game of the group Horncastle came up against 'B' league side East Coast Bullets. The Town youngsters were dominant in the early stages of the game and were playing some fantastic football. But to East Coast's credit, despite Town taking a 2-1 lead, they leveled the game with just two minutes remaining to draw the game 2-2 and prevent Town from their second win of the group.

Due to results elsewhere in the group this meant Town had to settle for finishing in 3rd place, but it was a fantastic effort from the boys, who all did the club proud.

Retford Utd Blacks went onto win the trophy, beating East Coast Bullets on a penalty shoot out.
